Rudi doesn’t know he is terminally ill yet his devoted wife Trudi does. When the doctor suggests that they do something special together, Trudi decides not to tell her husband about the gravity of his illness and to follow the doctor’s advice so she convinces Rudi to visit their children and grandchildren in Berlin. However, family life in Berlin is so busy that the family seem to begrudge the time spent with their ageing parents.

Suddenly, Rudi and the family are plunged into profound grief after receiving devastating news. Through his grief, Rudi begins to see Trudi with new eyes and embarks on an inspirational journey to Tokyo. The city is in the midst of the cherry blossom festival, a celebration of beauty, impermanence and new beginnings …
