Spud

This riotous coming of age story stars John Cleese as a tipsy English master trying to help a sensitive boy get through his first year at an elite South African boarding school.

Based on a hugely popular book, this film follows the misadventures of scrawny John Milton (known as ‘Spud’ because of his pre-pubescent state) who finds himself in a boarding school dormitory known as ‘The Crazy 8’, with a reputation for mischief. As apartheid collapses around them and the boys deal with their isolation from the opposite sex, Spud is the only one to pass his English exam. This brings him to the attention of ‘The Guv’ (John Cleese) who decides to act as Spud’s mentor in matters of literature, love and life.

“Hugely entertaining…the South African equivalent of Adrian Mole.” SPL!NG Movie Reviews

Loved Tanit in this film, miss Phoenix would have done well to be shown more.
