Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both the ancient tragedy and the modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920’s jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, SITA SINGS THE BLUES — described as “the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told” was entirely created by one woman working at home.

I thought “Sita Sings the Blues” was a little too self indulgent. Clearly Nina Paley is talented and a very funny lady but she had an axe to grind, and for me that really came through in the film. Fantastic soundtrack!
